I have been teaching music since age 15. Over the year I discovered that I enjoy the excitment of watching students grow and develop. I believe that a great teacher need to have three assets: 1. Know the material. 2. Know how to talk about the material 3. Be a good person. I believe I have all 3. All ages , levels and styles are welcome, beauty in music can be found in a Mozart sonata and in a delta Bloes and in an Adel song and in a Fun track.
Teaching recorder at age 15 (seriously...) I have been teaching here in the NYC area since the mid ninties. When I was a student at MSM the head of tutoring noticed me helping students and signed me up with a tutoring service that led to a position in a few schools and finally put me in the faculty of MSM pre colloege division. In addition I have between 20 to 30 private students every year. They range from 7 to 70 and from blues to Chopin.
I always tailor the method to the student and never the student to the method. If you want to play Joel we will work on that, If you want to play Chopin we will work on that and if you want to improvise we will work on that. I an a sucker for music theory and can talk about it for weeks (which is what I do at MSM). I am also a bottom line practical guy - whatever is your goal on the keys, If I can get you there - I will.
I use anything and everything. Repertoire is very important and we can have fun with that. I am laid back yet demanding. When I see a strength I will encourage it, when I see a weakness (rhythm, reading, memory) I will work tirelessly od fixing it. I usually teach weekly lessons but occesionally the situation calls for bi weekly or twice weekly
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
