ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
DePaul university BA Guitar performance JJC Music Theory
Awards:
Teacher at the West Coast Music Academy. Active, licensed song writer/publisher Active musician
Overview:
I've been a passionate musician all my life. Ever since my Nana bought me a mini electric piano when I was 3 ears old, it's been a staple of my life ever since. I studied guitar and piano all through out grade school and high school and continued my music education into college. I studied production, jazz, and theory at JJC of Illinois before transferring to DePaul University. I moved to L.A to perform and have been here for the past year teaching music at the West Coast Music Academy of Santa Clarita.
EXPERIENCE
I've been playing music since my nana bought me a mini piano as a toddler. I studied jazz piano, classical, and guitar throughout high school and continued through college where I received training in theory and performance. I currently am teaching at West Coast Music Academy in Santa Clarita, as well as actively performing as a guitarist in a band throughout Los Angeles. I'm a very free thinking teacher who likes to inspire students to love music. Fun is the main objective! Do what you love, and you'll do it well. I'm open for new students of all ages, thank you!
METHODS USED
I use my own lesson plan. I'll start with Hal Leonard for young students, and hanon's virtuoso pianist for more advanced students. I'll use theory lessons mixed with what the student actually enjoys, because it's hard to learn what you're not interested in. I'm flexible and will adapt to the student's needs. I try to find what motivates the student to play, and guide them accordingly. Overall, the main objective is to keep the student engaged and happy about their progress, because all in all, music is about fun.
LESSON STYLE
I teach to inspire fun and love in music and to give the student a sense of accomplishment in their progress. Once I know the student I can cater the teaching style to their individual needs. In my experience, a young student must see results, they need to know they aren't treading water, so I believe it's imperative to keep the student engaged and fully aware of how they're progressing. To cater to this, I am overtly positive and encouraging. I try to honestly make the student happy, and inspire confidence in their ability.
