ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelors of Social Work, University of Tennessee : ongoing
Overview:
I am a very motivated instructor who has a background in many different types of playing styles, including metal, rock, blues, and some introductory jazz. My passion with music and guitar began 11 years ago and changed over time with my interests. What I've found to be the most helpful during the teaching process is adapting techniques to fit the students skill level and learning style. As a guitarist that is self-taught, I've worked very hard at finding different ways to learn and have used this knowledge when instructing.
EXPERIENCE
The beginning of my more formal teaching started in High School when a friend and I began a Guitar Club as an after-school program for all levels of guitarists to join. It was a mentoring, preforming, and learning group where we practiced covers of songs and traded technique. As a senior at the University of Tennessee, I've begun informally teaching friends with a passion to learn guitar. It has been incredibly gratifying to watch their skills and confidence grow as they grasp an understanding of the guitar. I'd love to bring my passion for teaching and compiled knowledge to new students!
METHODS USED
When teaching beginners, I start a student goal plan (what type of music they wish to play, their strengths, and their goals). Then a lesson plan is created on my time where the next couple weeks worth of practice is laid out, this will continually evolve as the students skills do. For students with some background in guitar who want to improve their existing skills the goal plan highlights their strengths, areas of improvement, and goal for the next month. Although, I believe that the ultimate goal for any teacher is to give their students the means to express themselves through their instrument.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style focuses on encouraging students to be self-driven in exploring the guitar and their own unique style, be that from finding inspiration in artists from their chosen genre or through reaching milestones. I emphasize the importance of enjoying the act of playing guitar and separately setting aside time to engage in focused learning to avoid passion fatigue. The importance of group playing is also very important, where students and myself will collaborate to create original pieces that the student can practice or play for an audience.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
