As a teacher and performer for over 50 yrs., I have had a wide variety of playing experiences. While in the service, I performed with the U.S. Army Band both in the U.S. and Europe. My wife and children have been very supportive, although my Yorkshire Terrier does leave the room when I practice. I enjoy all sports. I believe that all endeavors in one's life should include fun and joy.
After graduating from UB, I began teaching in 1973. I was High School Band Director for schools in both Conn. and New York. My students have performed at The Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. and also at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. I currently play with the Stardusters, Briarcliffe Saints, and also do solo performance with pre-recorded soundtracks.
Beginning students would be introduced to methods of study which emphasize both fundamentals and song material such as (1) Breeze-Easy or (2) Belwin method. Upon completion of either of these, the student will be prepared to enter directly into most intermediate methods. Intermediate and Advanced students would require a more taylored study program, with regard to stated goals.
The student's musical experiences shold be both rewarding and fun. My teaching style emphasizes both responsibility and commitment on the part of student and teacher. With that in mind, private instruction should be a positive and enjoyable experience for both!
