Overview:
I've been playing guitar since the age of 12, and I find immense joy in teaching others how to play the guitar. I recently graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Music with a focus in jazz guitar performance. I believe that it is incredibly important to help others on their musical journey in order for them to find their own sound. In order to do this, I wish to help students simplify complex musical concepts that will help prepare them for various musical situations as a guitar player in a big band, trio, or when supporting a vocalist.
EXPERIENCE
I have always enjoyed helping others understand complex musical concepts. Often times people are naturally intimidated by musical concepts such as chord substitutions or even just sight-reading in different, unfamiliar keys. I thoroughly enjoy helping students understand that they should not be intimidated by such concepts and that it is entirely possible for them to learn complex musical concepts. I've taught students in my previous college and also at my previous high-school in Nashville, TN. Above all, I enjoy getting to know my students musical interests and helping them achieve their short-term and long-term musical goals on the guitar.
METHODS USED
For someone just beginning the guitar, I typically use the 'Berkeley' A Modern Method for Guitar - Volume 1 by William Leavitt. This book works wonderfully for lessons due to the methodical pace of volume 1 working through several important keys and starting positions on the guitar, and even has great student/teacher duets to help beginning students with keeping time and sight-reading. Once the student has worked their way through this book, I often begin to use chord literature by Ted Greene to help improve their chord vocabulary. Most importantly however, I use the students' musical interests to guide my decision on what they should be working on next.
LESSON STYLE
I thoroughly enjoy hearing about students' own musical interests and what they have been listening to recently. Knowing this information is incredibly important when trying to help a prospective student with their musical goals. When getting to know a student, I like to assist them with practice routine, but I also understand when life gets in the way. I enjoy getting to know a students strengths and weaknesses on the guitar, so I can better understand what they should be working on daily. Assessing sight-reading, scales, and improvising in the first few lessons can be incredibly helpful when pinpointing what a student feels uncomfortable with. Above all, I make my main curriculum decisions for lesson plans based on what the student is naturally most interested in.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
