Minor in Music Performance
I am a professional harpist and pianist who has been performing for over 15 years. I have a firm belief that anyone has the ability to learn an instrument (or multiple instruments!) and love to provide that opportunity. I graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2011 with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Anthropology and a minor in Music Performance with both the harp and piano. I have loved performing for weddings and other events on the harp and would love to provide students the opportunity to learn themselves!
I have provided lessons for a select few during my years of schooling and now that I have completed the bulk of my schooling requirements, I would like to expand my time to new students. I provide an equal balance of new and classic teaching techniques, allowing the students to be involved in the music choosing process. If they are not enjoying what they are practicing, then where is the joy? I encourage practice and a regular logbook so that students can actively see their own progress. Students of all ages are welcome!
I have used and swear by Alfred's Basic Piano and continuous repetition. Technique has always been one of the hardest aspects of learning to master, and I strive to make it as easy as possible by having students work in Alfred's and Dozen a Day to get the basics. From there, the student will lead me in the direction they need to go and by whatever path they need to take. Every student is unique in their learning abilities and I always focus on bringing out their best. Get ready for some scales and whole lot of your favorite music!
I believe in praise. It's a big step just making the decision to take lessons. I want each student to know every lesson each accomplishment and how much they are progressing. I want to reward each student with a recital at the end of the year to showcase their achievements to family, friends, and other students. The student sets the pace but will be astonished by how quickly they will progress. Though I want to make it fun, and hope to do so, I also want the students to reach out of their comfort zone and strive for a goal they think is just past their fingertips. Then I want them to own it and win it!
