I am a passionate and motivated music instructor who loves working with students of all ages and sharing my passion of music. In 2012, I graduated from Westfield State University in Massachusetts with a Bachelor or Arts degree in Music Education with a teaching certificate in K-12 instrumental and vocal studies. In 2015, I graduated from University of South Carolina with a Masters degree in Educational Administration. As a music teacher, I have taught high school for 2 years and am on my 6th year of teaching elementary school. I have worked with many band programs being a clarinet clinician as well as I have helped many students receive high rankings in County, Region and All state band.
My teaching experience starts in May 2012 when I taught piano lessons over the summer leading up to my first year of teaching high school. I have played clarinet for 21 years and have taught private clarinet lessons for 8 years out of my home studio. I graduated college with playing efficiency of every band instrument including piano and ukulele. I firmly believe practice is key to success and a lesson helps support the practice that is happening daily. I like to encourage my students to come into a lesson with an open mind and be excited about playing their instrument in a new way. If a student is not having fun or learning something new each lesson, then I am not doing my job. My students are excited about coming to a lesson because they know they are supported and motivated to learn. I strive to build my students confidence and always help them leave with a positive focus. I look forward to finding more students I can help become a better musician.
My methods revolve around the individual student. Depending on where the student is in their experience, changes how I teach a lesson. For Beginner students, we work on their method book they have received from their band director or school music teacher. If they do not have one, I recommend one for their level. Once they have progressed through the fundamentals, I add in scales and an etude that fits their level. I will then begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for the students level. For adults, I try to find out what they are interested in accomplishing and look at their experience. From there, we will decide together a path for their success.
I teach because I love to see my passion of music fall into a student. I love to share this passion and help the student find what they love about music. It is important that each student progresses at their own pace. Each one of my lessons are different from the last and are different from student to student. When students accomplish something new, we celebrate together. I get just as excited as they do. I try to find what inspires each student to help them become more eager to learn. My first lesson has us talking about their background, then going through a number of techniques to figure out where they are at in their learning and then from there the lessons will be created around them.
