Overview:
I'm a passionate musician and I hope to empower you to be one too! I have been a musician since I learned the saxophone in grade school. At age 13 I learned to play the guitar and soon started playing in bands. In college I became passionate about writing original music and using music to "heal." I began playing in the church and incorporated music in the field of therapy by implementing music for children with Autism. Over the past few years I have also had the opportunity to work in Nashville with world class musicians in music videos, live performances, and music production for various projects like podcasts. With this background I hope to teach the foundational tools so you too can have a versatile musical journey.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience ranges from children with disabilities, to peers that want to get started on their musical journey. When working with children in therapeutic settings, any time I would see a child respond to music, I would be sure to incorporate it into their developmental programs. Even if it were just basic rhythmic practices, this could greatly improve social interaction for children. When teaching adults the basics of music on the guitar, I would start with basic chord structures and rhythm to empower the ability to play in multiple enjoyable contexts.
METHODS USED
My method begins with a blend of foundation and fun. Learning what most excites you about music and filtering what to learn into that will create long term achievement. There is a learning curve as a new student, but setting up SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Relevant, Time Bound) can create the focus to learn fundamentals and develop your own "voice" as a musician. With that said initial lessons incorporate resources to achieve fundamentals while also assessing what individual goals you may have.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is "individualized." Although basic fundamentals are needed for anyone, where the focus is taken from there is completely up to the individual. Music is a diverse experience and I believe there isn't a one size fits all approach. Although a beginner, practice routines may be a bit more compartmentalized to achieve fundamental understandings, even within the basics practice routines can be greatly different depending on an individuals goals and strengths. Tapping into what brings you the most joy in music and applying a practice routine to that will create longevity!
