ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Master Degree: Chicago College of Performing arts, Bachelor Degree: Hartt School of Music, other: Civic Orchestra of Chicago, other: Pierre Monteux School
Overview:

I'm a dedicated music performer and teacher who enjoys helping fellow music students. I'm currently the 2nd trombonist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and regular member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. I've performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Symphony, Canton Symphony, Quad City Symphony, Rockford Symphony, West Michigan Symphony, and Illinois Symphony Orchestra. My teaching positions have included Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, ChiArts, Oak Park School of Music, Minooka Music Studio, and Logos School of music.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching in my undergraduate at the Hartt School where I took two years of teaching pedagogy. From here, I was able to begin my own small teaching studio before I moved to Chicago. Since in Chicago, i've become the teacher at some very high level schools around town, and in total have about 40 students! Some of my current students have won 1st place in their school solo competition, and have been accepted into Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my students succeed.

METHODS USED

My method depends on the student. Some need book work, some need to just be one with their instrument, and some need to listen and just admire some of the great players. I have a large amount of books I highly recommend of different techniques and musical challenges that I will often use, but I will also put the books away and work on the instrument itself. Every so often, I find it helpful to put the instrument away completely and to just listen to whatever great recording is out there, for listening is the best teacher.

LESSON STYLE

Each student is different, and I do not have one way that works for each student. Some students need to play more, and some need to listen and answer questions more, just depends on their personality. I find what works best is getting to know the student on a personal level, seeing how they react from criticism and go from there. Some student want me to be tougher, and some need to go slowly, and that's fine! Understanding the individual needs of your pupils will without a doubt, help them succeed!

Brian showed my son nothing more than an entertaining way to improve at his instrument, he was disappointed that Brian had to move to Indiana, but showed him plenty of tricks in the musical field. I HIGHLY recommend Brian.

Brian taught my son while he was living in Connecticut. He showed him a way to improve, while keeping him excited for each lesson. He is someone that I recommend very much, and i'm sure he will continue to pave the way for great young players!!!!!!
