Hi, I'm Bertilda A., I have been teaching piano since 1994 especially young kids age 4 ups. I am a trained a classical pianist but I incorporate classical and modern music. I took Bachelor of Music major in piano in the University of Immaculate conception Philippines but I graduated associate in Music major in piano. I strongly believe that a chance to go on a big stage and play on a great piano in front of people, makes a big difference in children's lives. Teaches them self control and self esteem.
I was teaching in Yamaha School of Music and University of Immaculate conception Philippines, as a part time music instructor. I have 20 years of experience teaching piano and organ of all ages levels. I teach students to learn how to play by ear as well as written music. Both approaches you will be able to play. I encourage my students to practice at least 30 minutes a day, to join competition, recital in order to develop their skills, ability, self confidence and to expose them in public performances.
For beginner students I start them to play John Thompson part one or level 1A piano by Willard A. Palmer. Introduction to playing keyboard orientation, finger number recognition and Key names through letter notes. Our lesson will focus on reading, counting and proper technique. Once the students has finished his or her part one book. I will begin to introduce solo piece or a simple piano duet. For advance students our lessons will draw from variety of methods and aspects of music. These include theory of music, sight reading and finger exercises.
To help my students learn in many ways, I think about different ways to approach teaching for different piano student learning styles. Music rhythmic creating pattern humming play or a different instrument. Verbal linguistic theory books and worksheets lyrics rhythmic words writing reading about music. Bodily personal: Group learning cooperative work, partner and buddy lessons individual students can collaborate with other virtually. All teaching methods involve compromises and not every method works well for every student.
