Overview:
Ashley is a recent graduate of Temple University- Boyer College of Music where she earned her Bachelor in Music in Flute Performance under Mr. David Cramer, Associate Principal Flute of the Philadephia Orchestra, and Mrs. Prema Kesselman, former Principal Flute of the Santiago Philharmonic. At Temple, Ashley performed with the Symphony Orchestra at the Lincoln Center of New York, as well as with the Opera Orchestra, Composers Orchestra, Contemporary Ensemble, Concert Orchestra and Wind Symphony. She has also performed in master classes with Marina Puccinini, Leone Buyse, Brad Garner, Göran Marcusson, Bonita Boyd, Alexa Still (ZAWA): Jill Felber & Claudia Andersen, Stephen Preston, and Lea Pearson among others. She has performed solos and participated in festivals in the United States, France, Italy, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
EXPERIENCE
An enthusiastic and dedicated teacher, Ashley teaches at several musical academies/schools and privately in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. She is an advocate of the Alexander Technique and incorporates it into her lessons; she is working on becoming certified in the near future. She loves learning from her students and watching them grow in a healthy environment. A recent graduate to Temple University, she is pursuing her Masters in Flute Performance at Temple University, and has recently moved to the Lancaster area and is looking to create a new studio in the area.
METHODS USED
In our first lesson I usually figure out around what level the student is at, and how much he/she knows. Also what his/her goals are for the instrument and what is hoped to accomplish by us working together. This will help me realize what customized route to take since each student has different plans and goals. I would then start with seeing how their basics are; standing position, finger position, arm position, breathing, muscle tension. I am very interested in the Alexander Technique, so I believe that breaking bad habits is an important first step in a pain free flute practice.
LESSON STYLE
Everyone is taking music lessons for different reasons. There is no correct path to teaching when each student wants something different out of lessons. Some want a laid back hobby to develop and have fun with, while others want to compete and become professional; and I adapt to each students goals and wants. I like to start my students off with a strong foundation. I like to use books written by flute players such as Trevor Wye or Moyse, instead of standard band methods. I usually structure my classes by beginning with a short warm-up and scales where we focus on tone, followed by an etude/technical studies and finish off with a piece of music or duets. I then give a few things to take home and review or practice.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
