I’m a pianist who has been blessed by God with the gift to play. I’m someone who is passionate about teaching. Seeing how my students from all ages progress in their unique musical journeys is why I teach. Music is such a beautiful thing. In fact it is the soundtrack to our lives. I find great joy in being able to show students ways to learn different styles of music. Showing them the foundation of both reading and playing by ear ensures that students become a well-rounded musicians.
I graduated from Florida International University with a Business Administration-Marketing degree. While there I took various music courses and with my skillset my late Grammy Nominated Professor, Mike Orta allowed me to play in the jazz combo. This was something that was not offered to non-music majors. Over the years I’ve been able to play a variety of styles of music. Doing so opened opportunities for me to play for events including graduations, banquets, funerals, weddings, churches, and restaurants that hosted over 3,000 attendees. I've garnered 1000+ subscribers and 140,000+ views on my YouTube page, that displays covers as well as tutorials. I've had multiple tutorials on social media that have obtained over 200+ likes, one of which received over 12k views, 200+ likes, 89 comments, and 300+ shares. I've been featured on 30 Killa Beatz and CJ Beatz youtube channels both respectively having 787,000 and 8,451,000 channel views. I've performed with Elanese from Diddy's Fox hit show "The Four". I've also worked as a songwriter of the music with Platinum Selling Artist Mavado and Grammy Award Winning Producer Troyton Rami/Black Shadow with new single "Ready Fi Dem" I've been credited on songs that have over 17 million streams worldwide.
I’ve been teaching for over 8 years now. Over the years I’ve developed methods where students who had never played before could go on to play for their churches, schools, and bands. It also has been a joy to hone in professional musicians’ knowledge of music theory. Some of these people either played by ear or by reading but never fully grasped the why of what they played. Lessons took place in person and also online via Skype and Zoom. Through this software that lights up the notes, the student is able to follow right along with what I’m playing. Through online lessons, I’ve taught people from all around the world. This includes Cuba, Brazil, Australia, United Kingdom, and more. I’m thankful to have taught students of various demographics. Whether there is a time difference that I have to accommodate or the latest Cartoon theme that my student wants to learn I make it happen.
To start, I like to have a brief consultation with either my student or their parents. I do this to find out what genres they want to learn as well as if they want to learn by reading or by ear. From there I tell them how important I feel it is to build fundamentals to reading, ear training, and music theory. These are skills that students build will continue to build over time. I tell my students that initially how long you practice isn’t what’s most important, but rather what and how consistent you practice. In detail I teach various concepts including but not limited to scales, modes, diatonic chords, note recognition, intervals, circle of 5ths/4ths, chord inversions, drop 2 voicings, note values, rest values, rhythm, ear training, and reharmonization. In my online lessons I use a software that lights up the notes. This ensures that the student can see every note that I play. I also record each lesson and send it to the student complimentary. This allows them to review the prior lesson upon the next lesson.
There is no better feeling than seeing my students grow in their passion for music. Pacing is very essential to each student’s growth. I evaluate where they are in their musical journey and give them measurable goals with each lesson. Each goal is met with another accomplishment. It’s important for them to understand that music is a journey. In this journey they will learn that making mistakes is a part of learning the practice material. This can go from recognizing the notes on the Treble Clef through the acronym Every Good Boy Does Fine as well as building up the muscle memory to play scales with the proper fingering. Overall, I feel it is important to have both patience and passion when teaching. I’m here to take your playing to the next level.
