I love teaching and sharing music with students. I currently attend school at Coastal Carolina University and am finishing my undergrad degree this year in Commercial Music and Jazz with a specialization in voice. I am a professional working musician gigging as a choir member and wedding band singer. I have performed and worked in jazz big band, pop, r&b, acoustic, country, and rock ensembles as a lead vocalist. I also currently teach voice and beginner piano lessons to students at Guitar Center.
I started teaching lessons this past year, and currently teach students piano and voice lessons through Guitar Center. I have been performing and singing since I was a young teenager working in my church's music program throughout high school. In college, I have performed as a lead vocalist in numerous ensembles with genres ranging from country to jazz. I am currently a full-time musician performing in wedding bands and singing gigs all around SC. I love teaching voice and creating a safe, supportive, and fun environment for students to learn and get comfortable with their voice in order to grow it.
Depending on the student, my methods will go on a case-by-case basis. I cater to the individual and what your personal goals are musically. For beginning children students the first few lessons would go over basic ideas of pitch and fundamentals of good breathing and support. For intermediate students, typically a lesson would involve warmups and technical work and then I would ask a student to bring in a song they want to work on in lessons or I would suggest a song to help and assist with their current vocal goals.
My teaching style is based a lot on what is most beneficial for the individual in the lessons. Voice is such an intimate and vulnerable instrument to learn so it is very important to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students to be encouraged to grow and feel comfortable making mistakes with their teacher. If a student feels supported then they can have the foundation and tools to grow and expand beyond their current comfort zone. My teaching style is based on correction and helpful feedback within the lesson to help the student adjust in each moment.
