Bachelor Degree: Western Governor's University
I am a passionate instructor who grew up musically. My mom was a piano teacher for many years and taught me. I have played the flute from the age of 10. I have always been very musically inclined and love to play any instrument I can. I have a bachelor's degree in education and have performed in group settings and as a soloist. I performed in many solo competitions throughout high school and got many great marks. I also performed solos at graduation, church, baptisms, and other functions. I genuinely love to play!
Although my teaching experience in music is minimal, I enjoy teaching and seeing joy on a student's face when they finally get it. I love what music brings to a student's life and encourage them to immerse themselves in the music world. As a teacher I believe you learn more when you are having fun and it's something you are interested in so I encourage students to also work on music they find enjoyable and want to learn. I love teaching beginners and smaller children because they often times are the most excited about learning.
For beginners I normally use my own methods. I try to observe and understand how each student learns and play to their strengths. Some students are play more by ear so playing it first for them helps them more than sight reading. Other times sight reading with finger placement reminders helps more. For intermediate and adult students finding what they are interested in learning is a key teaching method and helps them keep interest and remember what they are taught. Either way, lessons should be fum.
I love watching a student grow their love for music! Seeing the joy on their faces as they progress is one of my favorite things. To help them progress, I make sure there are realistic goals set for each student and they go at a pace that is comfortable and realistic for their ability. I am a big supporter of acknowledging the accomplishments of each student and love to showcase each student during recitals throughout the year. I try hard to connect with each student and find out what really motivates them so I can tailor instruction to that.
