Overview:
I love the flute and I love teaching. I have been teaching the flute for 10 years and have been playing for over 20. A recent graduate of the jazz studies program at NYU, I hold a Bachelor of Music from Cornish College of the Arts and a Master of Music from New York University. I have experience in jazz, classical, rock and avant-garde music and am capable of playing a variety of flutes from around the world. I am flexible and happy to tailor my practice to the needs and interest of the student. I have had the privilege of performing at Abrons Arts Center, Make Music New York, Loewe Theater, and Dazzle. I also host a monthly concert series through Outpost Club in Brooklyn.
EXPERIENCE
My experience began in college when I started teaching the neighbors's two little girls. I developed a passion and went on to teach more students of all ages and a variety of skill levels. While I believe in a solid technical foundation, I also believe that the student should be able to study the music that drew them to the flute in the first place. I am the sort of person that cannot be pinned into one category, and am flexible in my teaching in regard to the student's interests and learning style.
METHODS USED
I typically get students started by teaching them a song they want to learn. From there, I continue the process, gradually increasing the difficulty of the music and introducing technical exercises from my library of method books. I am not attached to one particular book, and view them as a handy reference rather than a dictator of the learning process. Listening is an important aspect of music, and learning by ear is as important as learning to read printed music. Creativity is also an important part of my teaching practice, and students are encouraged to improvise and write their own pieces.
LESSON STYLE
The most important thing is that the student is happy. I tailor the lessons to the interests, learning style and development of the student. Exercises are assigned according to the music being studied. Goals are set at the end of each lesson to push the the student to do his/her best and to achieve his/her goals. I use method books as a supplement, but not the focus of the teaching process. I believe that good technique is a means to an end and not the end itself. I have also witnessed my students' progress and passion increase when they are able to apply new skills directly to the styles they want to learn.

Ammon is an excellent musician, flute player and composer. It has always been a great pleasure and I have learnt a lot of things by working with Ammon. Ammon has also a broad knowledge both in Jazz and Classical and I would reccommend studying with Ammon

I really enjoyed my lesson with Ammon. They have a very calming and relaxed personality that puts an anxious new student at ease. Even though we did our lesson through Zoom, which I didn't think would be effective, their ability to verbalize instruction on proper technique helped me improve my posture, breathing, and tone dramatically. When they need to show me certain techniques, they knew exactly how to use the camera angles to demonstrate them in ways I haven't seen before online, and it greatly helped my understanding of what to do. I highly recommend studying with Ammon as they will help you improve your flute playing tremendously!

Ammon is a wonderful teacher for our 12 year old beginner. We are having lessons with Ammon over Zoom and it's going very well! They are encouraging , calm, and motivating for our son, who is easily distracted. I have never heard Ammom be frustrated with our son, they have only been a warm teacher who is patient and works with our son's quirks. Ammon is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about flute and gives our son very helpful tips for improving his playing and his posture to reduce muscle strain from this non-ergonomic instrument.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
