Overview:

I am a very dedicated and passionate instructor, who thoroughly enjoys helping students learn and achieve their goals. I graduated in 2016 with a bachelor in music performance from the University of Missouri, and in 2018 I graduated from McGill university with a Masters in Classical Guitar Performance. Throughout my musical journey I've studied with some of the best guitarists in the world, and have had the opportunity to perform all over the world. Music is one of life's greatest gifts, I can't wait to share my knowledge with you.

EXPERIENCE

I began my career as a music teacher when I was in high-school, where I had the opportunity to teach through a group co-op. I continued to develop my skills as a passionate teacher in undergrad, and began teaching through the Community Music Program at the University of Missouri. There I was able to really develop a love of teaching and became dedicated to enriching the lived of others through music education. Since graduating from McGill with my Masters degree I began teaching as a private guitar Instructor for Music & Arts, and as a group guitar instructor at St. Anthony's Elementary School where I currently teach.

METHODS USED

I approach each student individually, and believe there is not one way to teach one way to teach guitar. What works for some may not work for others and I make sure to cater my instruction methods based on the needs of the student. I believe that a proper development of technique is essential know matter what genre or style of music you are playing. Thus I begin every student out with learning the fundamentals of guitar technique based on Classical Guitar methods I’ve learned studied and put into practice over the past 20 years. While these studies and exercises come from the traditional guitar methods of Spain and Italy, they are exercise that have been tried and tested again and again that can be applied to any genre. In addition, the fundamentals of music are also taught along with these exercises. These being: learning to read sheet music, understanding rhythm, and learning the beginnings of tonal harmony.

LESSON STYLE

The goal of my lessons is to teach a student how to play the guitar and to have fun with playing the guitar. Playing Music should be fun and rewarding and it's my job to help you do just that. I don’t teach short riffs, or only a few chords as many other methods do. When we learn a song we learn the whole song from beginning to end so that when the student sits down to play something, they are able to play music, play songs, and enjoy it. I believe that the role of a teacher is to be a guide to their students. I can show you what to practice, introduce you to songs, and tell you what you need to work on based on my knowledge and experience of studying and playing the guitar for over 20 years, but the rest is up to you. Showing up once a week to lessons with little to no practice in-between will not get you the results you want, I cannot play the guitar for you. However you if you put in time and effort to practice and to learn each assignment each week, I will work my hardest to give you everything I have to help you succeed. Are you ready to begin your musical journey?
