Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I picked up teaching during my second year of college with some help from my mother- a long-time piano teacher. During that time I taught several different students ranging from age 6 to adult on various instruments including piano, guitar, and drums. I've experienced the different learning styles and barriers that come with teaching kids, teens, and adults. Additionally, I have experience teaching outside of the music realm having worked as an outdoor educator, camp counselor, and substitute teacher as well as various tutoring sessions throughout my school career. Trumpet: for beginners, I typically utilize the methods book in which the student is using in their beginning band class. If the student is not enrolled in band at a public school, I typically use a combination of materials. Focus on fundamentals at the beginner level is essential for musical proficiency. My teaching style places emphasis on relationship building, knowledge grabbing and demonstration. Developing a relationship includes relatability, comfort & communication. Here humor is used. My approach to coaching students is focused on 5 important areas; embouchure, tone quality, intonation (pitch), technique, and time. Memorization of key signatures and scales are very important to the student's overall success. I utilize a method for memorizing key signatures which will decrease the memorization time and increaseretention. The choice of music books and etude studies are based upon the student's level of playing and areas I identify needing improvement. Read More
