I began teaching privately in my sophomore year of high school. I had always known that I wanted to become a music teacher, but this is the time of my life when I really started discovering my potential in the education community. Students that I have worked with have achieved Superior Ratings in OMEA Solo and Ensemble events, have been part of various honor bands and extra-curricular groups. Establishing a personal connection with them to create an environment of success is one that is always a concern of mine. My approach to teaching kids has always emphasized finding joy in the instrument. I will always start with the a good foundation of a solid understanding of music fundamentals and work with the kids at a pace that allows them to grow yet really enjoy what they are doing. Each lesson plan will be tailored to fit the student’s needs. Personally, I think one of the most important parts of teaching music is to give students a complete grasp of performing music by combining theory into their lesson plan to make a well-rounded musician. Their lesson plan will depend on their playing level: I will make sure they have fundamentals down for beginner students, but also adding solo repertoire and etudes to teach virtuosity and good performance practice for the advanced students.
