I've recently moved to the Bryan/College Station area to work at Texas AM as part of their Center for Teaching Excellence. I also play piano at Covenant Presbyterian Church! I received my PhD in Fine Arts from Texas Tech in 2018, having studied there with Dr. William Westney, performing recitals, accompanying instrumentalists and vocalists, teaching group classes and private lessons, as well as serving as pianist at multiple churches. I bring lots of experience and excitement to lessons with students of all ages. Read More

I received my Bachelor's in Music Education from West Texas AM University in 2015 and my Masters in Percussion Performance from Texas Tech University in 2017. Throughout school, I was fortunate to have had opportunities to perform with various ensembles at the statewide and national levels. These experiences I was able to bring to hone my own skills to perform and teach at a high level. I take pride in my humble beginnings and I hope to bring others on their own journey that they can learn from and enjoy. Read More

I began teaching beginner piano at the age of 13 and have been consistently teaching for the past 10 years. My students have ranged from ages 3-80. Throughout my teaching and personal performing, I have realized how important consistent positive practice is. When working with students, I always emphasize quality over quantity when it comes to practice time specifically. Students must enjoy what they do. In order to create a balanced music education that is also fun and engaging, I combine both modern and classical repertoire. Read More

Much of my lesson plan is specific to the age, experience, desire and ability of the student, but the basics tend to remain the same. I try to craft dexterity and melodic exercises to unite the ear and fingers, while crating a basic understanding of the theory involved, a rhythmic exercise which teaches comping and time, and assign a song to work on between lessons. I refer to this plan as "Theory, Time Tune." This technique was effective when assigned to me and I still use it to guide my own practice. Read More

For beginners, I typically start with Mayon Cole's EZ Keys for younger children (age 4.5 to 5), and I use manehune (age 6) or level one (age 7-10) or above for elementary school age children. Once the student has progressed and gain confidence in sight reading and rhythm/counting, I will then supplement the curriculum with solo repertoires from other piano curriculum such as Fabor/Fabor or Alfred series (Little Mozart). I also introduce chords playing for contemporary/praise music when the student is ready. Read More
