I then like to make a custom lesson plan and practice schedule for my students, as well as book recommendations to work from. I take a rather traditional approach to teaching. Pure musical selections are first and foremost of course, but I find it essential that student's learn their scales, progressions and various other exercises no matter what style of music brings them most enjoyment. I am very solid on teaching the fundamentals of music such as rhythm, melody and harmony.
