I am a graduate from the University of Iowa, where I received a BM in Clarinet Performance. I am from Iowa City and started playing piano at the age of four at the Preucil School of Music. When I was eight, I won the Iowa Music Teachers Association statewide piano competition. When I was ten, I started playing the clarinet. I am a three-year Iowa All-Stater, and I played at Carnegie Hall as part of the Young Adult Honors Performance Series band as well as in the Orfeo Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy. Read More

What I like to do is find out what my students know about music and then work from there. For instrumental I start with basics and play through scales to see how they play and how they can improve. For students that are younger or completely new to music, we would start with very basic general music terms and would become very close to the instrument of choice knowing the parts, how sound works with the instrument and how to properly play the instrument (close to the Suzuki method). my instructions are easy to follow no matter the age or ability level. My teaching experience began in middle school, I would help my friends learn how to play music so we could perform in school talent shows. During high school and college I began teaching more professionally in a studio setting. Whether it was piano, french horn, or the ukulele, I was able to find a way to connect with my students.
