For beginners, I like to start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument. Brass instruments are notoriously demanding, so making sure we have a solid grasp on the fundamentals is paramount. I like to start with the Essential Elements for Band and the Elementary Method for Cornet and Trumpet books. I started teaching private piano in 1991 and have trained over 200 private students since starting. I have taught K-12 music in public schools since 1991. My students' ages have ranged from 3 to 66+. As I am fully retired from the public school music classroom, I have expanded my times available for private students - piano, keyboard, ukulele, guitar, and all brass instruments are welcome. At present my practice of teaching music involves inspiring other singers to want to sing along during Zoom meetings, or giving them the tools to make a good audio recording for a virtual choir. Recently I made slideshows of the music score synchronized with the audio track for their voice part. I took responsibility for my own learning, and shared my tools with others.
