My teaching style is this; if you have fun learning, you are going to have fun playing. Every player is at a different stage of learning, and that's what makes my job so amazing. I get to see where my students are at, and I work with each individual student knowing that I can make where they are at with guitar a fun learning experience. I started playing acoustic folk styles in 1962 and added 60's rock and more as time went on. I joined my first rock band in 1965 and have now played all styles of rock, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, jazz, and contemporary Christian and worship music. I also play and teach bass and other stringed fretted instruments, keyboards, and drums and percussion. I am passionate about students not only exploring musical styles but really understanding every aspect of the music they are learning, including the history of the musical style, the composers and the more well known performers. It is important to me that each student comprehends the details of each new piece they learn including, the specific fingering required, the details of the rhythms, dynamics and composer's directions and markings. My teaching methods are dependent upon the goals of the individual student; I implement a variety of different method books, including Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, Berklee Press, Shearer Method, and Parkening Method. For students desiring to learn classical, I use the studies of Sor, Carcassi, Aguado, Sagreras, as well as carefully selected repertoire. I also interned at music studios and sat in on live audio gigs to learn that aspect as well. I have been playing for artists/bands live and in the studio (primarily on bass guitar) for almost 15 years now.
