My goal is always to get the student playing songs with three or four chords in them within about three months. Part of each session is the creation of a handmade booklet to be used as a chord reference. The first session is not about music, but simply about the mechanics of fingers and guitars and I give an initial exercise that focuses on clarity of tone. My teaching style is just like most I think. I don't rush with the students. Always trying to go slow and make sure the students understands everything. I've gotten pretty good at figuring out when the students get what I'm trying to teach. If I feel like I'm going to fast I'll stop think about what I'm doing and slow down.
