Each lesson they take home a blank staff paper in which they write specific notes and rhythm patterns on during the week. They learn to write and read their music very well, and it is fun to do. They of course are rewarded at their lesson for bringing back their papers. I have just started opening up to the whole new world of music out there on you tube. I am very patient with my students. I stay positive and encourage their improvements. I review material that they are having trouble with and encourage them to keep trying. I make sure they are progressing in their book at a pace that works for them so they will continue to learn but not get overwhelmed.
