My teaching experience dates back to my early college days, about twenty-two years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last two decades. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for their instrument. The most important thing for me to note is that I teach intermediate and advanced jazz saxophone as well as beginning and intermediate clarinet, flute and saxophone. After coming to a certain ability level, I will refer classical students to another teacher. I am a candidate for the degree Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance which I am planning to complete in December of 2014. One method works with tone, another deals with technique and the third one works rhythms. I then slowly integrate solo and ensemble repertoire which leads to your first performance. I typically begin my young students in the Suzuki Method for Flute, inwhich I have received the training for this method. For older students, I begin them in the Trvor Wye Method for Beginning Flute Students. I supplement both these methods with solos appropriate for their level and goals, such as UIL and other competitions.
