I received my Associates of the Arts degree in 2017 and continuing to double major in Flute performance and Music Therapy. For beginning students, I prefer to use Essential Elements by Bruce Pearson. This is the book I learned from and have been using to teach. I enjoy this book because of its progression system and the incorporation of solos throughput instead of just exercises for the students to play through. My teaching style allows students to make music from the beginning, helping to motivate them with attractive songs, which can be used as technique building exercises. I encourage my students to practice and set goals at each lesson. They would be able to work at their own pace. Playing duets with the teacher is also a fun activity, and listening to good players recordings will inspire them.
