Instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Euphonium, French Horn, Tuba, Piccolo

My teaching style is very regimented in the direction goal-setting and interests. Realistically setting goals is important for students of all abilities. Comparison from one student to the other is detrimental to the student's success as a musician, so I will tailor the progress to fit every need. I will also get the student involved with groups where they can further their learning and abilities. By keeping aligned with every student's interests their learning will never be too much for the student to handle. Read More

The flute is my passion, I hope to pass it on to others! I have played the flute and piccolo for 26 years. I performed in the U.S. Army Band for 8 years and I have a Bachelor's in Music Education with an emphasis in flute performance. I have performed all over the U.S. and Japan, as well as in France and the Philippines. I am very skilled at playing the piccolo, and if that interests you, I can really help you shine. Read More

Instruments: Flute, Piccolo

It is my goal to customize the lesson experience for every student that I teach. Most beginners benefit from a method book, such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, which is a good starting place for most students. As students progress on their instrument, I choose the method books and solos that will best help them develop their talents as well as keep them engaged in the material. During my years on the flute, I have used a wide variety of methods that I have found successful for different techniques, so I can effectively select what material will help each student become successful. Instruments: Piano, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Ukulele

For the Clarinet, I typically use The Hendrickson Method book series with supplemental books on the side to enhance their various levels.  For flute and saxophone, I will evaluate based on the student's level. Once I have established a method book, I incorporate solos and additional techniques. I also encourage the students to bring music from their band class and/or other solos they may be working on for festivals, competitions, or auditions. Read More

Instruments: Flute

For beginner students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, since it is commonly the book used in middle school bands. From there, I transition the student to solo repertoire by finding/transcribing music that the student enjoys before introducing appropriate more formal solo repertoire. I also begin teaching students basic music theory and slowly start to introduce more advanced techniques, such as vibrato and double-tonguing. It is also important for me to ask students about their goals and interests when structuring their lesson curriculum! Read More
