My teaching style is very regimented in the direction goal-setting and interests. Realistically setting goals is important for students of all abilities. Comparison from one student to the other is detrimental to the student's success as a musician, so I will tailor the progress to fit every need. I performed in the U.S. Army Band for 8 years and I have a Bachelor's in Music Education with an emphasis in flute performance. As students progress on their instrument, I choose the method books and solos that will best help them develop their talents as well as keep them engaged in the material. For the Clarinet, I typically use The Hendrickson Method book series with supplemental books on the side to enhance their various levels.  For flute and saxophone, I will evaluate based on the student's level. Once I have established a method book, I incorporate solos and additional techniques. For beginner students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, since it is commonly the book used in middle school bands. From there, I transition the student to solo repertoire by finding/transcribing music that the student enjoys before introducing appropriate more formal solo repertoire. I also begin teaching students basic music theory and slowly start to introduce more advanced techniques, such as vibrato and double-tonguing.
