Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

For beginning students, I typically start with the universal drum exercises every drummer should know, like the Ted Reed's book "syncopation" or the very classic "stick control". These exercises are mostly for warm ups, hand coordination, internalizing rhythm, and speed training. Depending on their musical background, I often like to introduce basic music theory concepts just so we are able to speak the same language. I started teaching private flute lessons to beginners in the Twin Cities area10 years agowhen I was in High School. I relocated to Duluth for college and continued my private teaching as I earned my degree in Music Education. I use generally use Faber and Faber for piano and the Yamaha method for guitar. However, each student learns differently therefore I like to meet and assess the needs before choosing a course to follow. For band students, I use the school's chosen method of instruction supplementing with theory, technique and performance pieces. For piano students, I get to know each student's taste in music and choose accordingly. His compositions for Jazz Orchestra have been performed by high school, college, and professional big bands in Minnesota. He is a member of the Twin Cities Jazz Composer’s Workshop, and is currently serving a term on the Board of Directors of the MetroNOME Foundation. He books and arranges youth jazz performances for MetroNOME' Brewery’s Next Generation Jazz Series.
