I started teaching drums in San Francisco in 1995. I teach all levels from beginner to professional in all styles including double bass drums. My specialty is jazz which includes boogie woogie, swing, big band, bebop, cool jazz, avant garde, fusion, afro-cuban, and salsa. My teaching experience started while I was attending high school. I began working at local band camps over the summer during my senior year and I found the experience to be cathartic and extremely rewarding. At the beginning of my college career, I started working with several band programs as an instructor and private lesson teacher. I have been actively teaching students of all ages since 2007. Since 2015, I have proudly served as an instructor during the summer for the percussion ensemble at the world class, Colts Drum and Bugle Corps. Read More

I am both an avid teacher and an avid performer. In addition to my teaching experience, I have performed in concerts across the US, as well as throughout Europe. I bring a wide variety of performing practices into my lessons, having experience in both vocal and instrumental performance and teaching, as well as involvement in over 80 theatrical productions. I believe patience coupled with encouragement can be a recipe for success. When the student develops their own passion for music and their instrument their abilities tend to soar. I attempt to set realistic goals for the student but I am very adaptable and flexible. I still remember being able to strum my first song on the guitar. After that I was hooked! I believe in understanding the fundamentals and learning the technical aspects are important, however I have seen firsthand how enjoying music and the instrument and being able to play a song and not just a scale can lead to an increased desire to play and learn more.
