I began teaching percussion immediately after high school. While attending EKU, I helped my former high school by teaching the percussion section during the marching band season. I taught the section every year for about 12 years before being hired as a full-time teacher and becoming the assistant director of the band. It just has to be a path that demonstrates great playing. If you're more disciplined about your playing than I am, you will enjoy your lessons. Drums/Percussion: This being my main area of expertise, I can get you to where you want to be. My approach depends on your goals. For the drum set, my preferred approach is a bit like Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid. We will begin away from the drum set doing isolated hand/foot exercises (will need a practice pad), analyzing together music the student is interested in, and hammering home the importance of a relaxed body and proper posture.
