I received my Master’s degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, studying with former LA Philharmonic Principal cellist Peter Stumpf, and my bachelor’s degree at Temple University, studying with cellist Jeffrey Solow. As a chamber musician, I have studied with Menahem Pressler, Mark Kaplan, Jorja Fleezanis, and Kurt Muroki. I approach teaching very seriously with a lot of planning, but during the lesson, I have lots of fun getting to talk to my students! During lessons, I strive to get to know my student better to build a positive relationship so that both of us truly enjoy our time together. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Some exercises to get into the position to play and the knowledge about the instrument. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I have cultivated several concerto competition winners for the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Philharmonic concerto competitions. A number of my students continued to study music in some of the most prestigious music schools in the world including Julliard School of Music, Rice University, Indiana University Bloomington, Northwestern University, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Carnegie Mellon University. While I was attending my high school, which also happens to be a music conservatory, my cello teacher used to say that we should be able to teach each other techniques and fingerings because he was not going to be always able to be in school orchestra with us, so I remember, as the principal cellist of my orchestra, that I was always teaching others fingerings and techniques and so were my mates, in that way we could perform how our conductor would ask us.
