I believe in a positive perspective on practicing: regular practice will greatly enhance a student's progress with lessons. Focusing on, and isolating, challenges, rather than practicing what has already been acquired, will help the student gain proficiency and fluency in his or her musical ability. I'm a cellist, composer, and a passionate teacher of many instruments. I've worked with students as young as 2 and as old as 90. My students have gotten in to region, all-state, college music programs, prestigious summer festivals, and placed in national competitions. I've taught children with autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Then I began teaching formally in schools in 2008 until 2017 where I taught middle and high school orchestra and choir and also elementary music. I was brought up classically trained on the Suzuki books but I am completely flexible. If you have or have heard of a set of books you like we can use that too. If you don't know how to read music we can focus part of the lesson on music theory and the rest on learning from recordings and playing by ear. I started playing violin at the age of 4, and started teaching at 17. In 2003, I started playing viola, and in 2005, I started learning cello. In 2010, I graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Music degree with electives in Psychology. I have played as the Associate Principle Second Violin in the Orange County Symphony since 2011. I love teaching because I love to help people, and I love to share my joy of stringed instruments.
