I am a patient and encouraging instructor who enjoys sharing music with people and working with students to teach music. I started my piano lesson at age of seven and cello at age of nine. I got my bachelor's degree from National Taiwan Normal University where the country I am originally from and my master's degree from Northern Illinois University. If the student has never read sheet music, we will first do worksheets to learn how to read bass clef. If the student has taken another instrument, such as piano, there are some transferrable skills that will allow us to go through this process much faster. As we learn to read bass clef, we will explore the instrument, learn where notes are, and begin making sounds. I had a successful private studio from 2003 until 2008. My students ranged in ages from beginners to seniors in high school. Then I began teaching formally in schools in 2008 until 2017 where I taught middle and high school orchestra and choir and also elementary music. I Started with music 17 years now . I began age 10 with cello. 2 years later started the guitar. Picked up along the way electric bass, upright bass, ukulele , mandolin , banjo, basic piano and learning accordion. All middle and high school was in the orchestra. Graduated 2009, then attended Lone-star for 2 years taking music classes. I was in a band for about 3 years. We did some events, but then I decide to leave. Depending on my student's age and skill level I usually have them begin with Suzuki books, Essential Elements books, or a combination of the two. As students advance I often incorporate etudes and/or exercises by Lee, Dotzauer, Galamian, Mooney, Sevcik, Duport, and Popper. While ear training is an essential skill that I teach to all of my students, the younger a student is the more I'll have them "play by ear" instead of reading sheet music. Read More
