I have had 2 private students for the past year both for voice: -Zoe 15 -Lucas 13 I officially started teaching while I was with The After School All-Stars teaching their school of rock band. I was with them for 3 years and in that time I was able to not only have the students perform as a band but I also taught the students how to be "techies". Not all of them wanted to play instruments but they still wanted to be a part of the group so I said Why Not?" For my beginning piano students, I like to start with Alfreds performance books and music theory to help assist the note and music reading. My cello students that are still in the beginning stages I like to have using the Suzuki books to help work towards more advanced music and skills. My voice students are all very different so I shape our lesson methods based on what style of singing theyre interested in, but we always begin working on proper breathing and learning solfege. I asses ability based on hearing pitches and singing them back. I work out of the Suzuki method books not using it strictly. Kummer and Feuillard for duet sight reading and Schoeder for etudes. Students ability is measured by how many hours they practice which I give specific instructions on how long they should work with each exercise. Every student uses a notebook to make sure they remember what was assigned. Read More

I want to serve as a supportive and instructional figure that helps cultivate an appreciation of music for all students. In order to do this, I believe it's important to prioritize personal student progress rather than subscribe to a fixed game plan. That being said I take on a relaxed adaptive teaching style that tailors to the student. I am friendly and incredibly patient with all my students. I believe that all students need proper encouragement and constructive critiquing during the learning process, so that is something I put a lot of emphasis on. At the same time, I set high standards for my students and expect them to carry themselves as professionals during practices. I normally demonstrate to the student by playing in both styles (my style of playing and the student's way of playing) to allow the students to make comparisons and decide which style of playing they prefer.
