I believe in a positive perspective on practicing: regular practice will greatly enhance a student's progress with lessons. Focusing on, and isolating, challenges, rather than practicing what has already been acquired, will help the student gain proficiency and fluency in his or her musical ability. Music is, in a sense, both a fine art, and a discipline. For that reason I teach both interpretation and technic. Musical challenges can, at times, be met by technical considerations; and technical challenges can be met by musical considerations. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki Cello Book 1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire tailored for each student depending on their skill level. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I enjoy accommodating students with the exact type of lessons they need. For beginners I use a slow approach at first, attempting to minimize the chance of bad habits. After a methodical start we would launch into various selections of repertoire which all foster growth and steady challenge. Read More

For beginners I like to start with the Suzuki Method. But I'm also familiar with other couple methods such as Essential Elements and Essential Techniques for strings book 1-3. In addition to follow a method book, I like to supplement some small pieces from other books as well as incorporate some of the pieces that the student want to learn. Once the student is in the intermediate to advanced level of playing, I like to use the String Basics Book, Carl Flesh Scale Book, Kayser's ,Schradieck, Dont, Kreutzer's 42 Studies, among others a long with some solo repertoire.
