I began teaching students in college. While I was there I taught seven students all at once. I take pride in providing specific and tailored teaching to each of my students. While student teaching in Frisco I attended many workshops and had many conversations with experienced teachers about how to improve my teaching. While I am new to teaching, I am hoping to create a comfortable environment where students do not feel rushed to complete pieces or practices, and we will always move at the students pace. If a student is not yet ready to move on to the next piece, then we will continue polishing whatever they need before moving on. I will always keep a log of what the student is currently working on, and what they should work on between lessons so we can always make sure things get done, and can move on to new things. My teaching experience is primarily in one on one or small group settings. I have taught several students as young as 10 years old. It is my experience that a student's approach to their instrument varies with their age. The more time one spends with an instrument, the more one expects to have a certain sound. I believe it is important to emphasize not comparing oneself to others. This goes hand and hand with my approach to teaching in that it focuses on the individual wants and needs of the student. I have played cello for over 30 years. I've been teaching on and off since I graduated college, and consistently for the last ten years. I have performed and recorded with a variety of different groups in Southern California and Texas including the Claremont Symphony Orchestra in Claremont, California, the Point Loma Nazarene University Orchestra in San Diego, California, the Sinfonietta of Fort Worth in Texas, various independent solo artists and alternative bands.
