For my string students, I typically use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements at first, and then I introduce the Suzuki Method for solo repertoire once they have progressed on their instruments. For my vocal students, I find what type of music my student is interested in, and I then recommend a voice book that we will pick repertoire from. Learning isn't a photocopy process which means a lot of the learning process is a responsibility of the student. I view my job as a teacher is to 1) make sure the student isn't getting overwhelmed, 2) hold the student accountable for their learning, and 3) guiding students through experiences that will facilitate their learning. My goals as a teacher are to 1) bring students to the highest level of technical ability they are able to attain, and 2) develop in the student the highest level of musicianship possible through theory and ear training. For students who are already in an instrumental program through school, I will start with whatever method book they are using at school, and branch off from there. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book. She is a fully-trained Suzuki cello teacher and Dalcroze Eurythmics instructor having completed her training at the Cleveland Institute of Music Suzuki Pedagogy Program. She currently holds teaching positions with the Cincinnati Young Artists, University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory, 2019 CYA Summer Cello Academy, Indian Springs Academy of Music and Musika Lessons.
