My teaching style is very organic and personal. Because I feel music is more of an expression before it is a discipline, I am a strong believer in giving tools of discipline as they are needed, rather than forcing a student into a rigor just because it worked for a different student with a different personality. For adult students I seek to find what the students is most interested in (classical, jazz, rock, bass nova, etc.), and then go from there in terms of finding repertoire and creating my own custom lessons plans, centered around the student's goals. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a method book geared specifically for children. I began teaching drums and percussion around my senior year of high school (1999). For guitar/bass guitar, I began teaching sometime in 2009. I feel very fortunate regarding my teaching experiences. In the beginning and still today, I tend to spark a musical interest in people through performance -- and just as often -- conversation.
