Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I will use a lot of coaching, affirmation, reassurance, and encouragement to fuel a student's progress and desire to stay with it. Though my specialty is in music composition, my undergraduate degree is in guitar and choral education, and I have been teaching guitar for over 10 years, to students from 5 - 80. I am currently an adjunct professor at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and teach guitar and bass lessons / classes, songwriting, music composition, and music theory. If the student is having a hard time finding interest in the instrument through disciplines, I start them off with various ear training games to get them to make connections between the music inside of them and the guitar or bass as a constructive outlet. This generally creates a foundation that has room for disciplines. For more intermediate students, I generally try to get in perspective with the music tastes that they have begun to develop and teach the foundational skills of the instrument within that context. Again, analyzing some music together that the student is interested in is part of the process. Music theory will be discussed! Theory will not dominate the conversation unless the student shows a high interest for this. Some basic theory as it related to chords, chord progressions, scales, and music in general will certainly be beneficial. I will say, if you are wanting to learn how to "shred" like Eddie Van Halen or some of the hard rock/metal guys, I won't be much help unless a music theory discussion is needed. Read More
