I began teaching in 2009, with private students. The following year, I began working with non-profit organization, for two years, that brought music to at-risk and underprivileged children. After working with them, I began working with the Baton Rouge Arts Council, bringing music and music appreciation to elementary school class rooms for children and schools that did not have a music teacher, on staff. Due to my training in the Suzuki Violin Method, I often start my beginner students with Suzuki Book 1. However, I supplement this music with exercises found in other method books, as well as fun games and activities that help my younger students learn more about the violin. My fourteen years as a strings teacher has included both private lessons and public school settings. Many of his students have gone on to be involved in regional orchestras, Houston Youth Symphony, and university orchestras. From 2007 through 2010 orchestras under my care have earned consistent First Division ratings at UIL competitions, including “Sweepstakes” honors in 2008. This series tends to be inexpensive, touches on classical exerpts while teaching students proper techniques, and builds on concepts in a way that solidifies the information in a student's brain.
