I started violin at the age of three under Loraine Fink in the Los Angeles area. My family moved around frequently when I was young, and, as a result, I had had more than ten different teachers before I was thirteen. I played in many school and youth orchestras, and in high school I attended North Carolina School of the Arts (now University of North Carolina School of the Arts) under the tutelage of Kevin Lawrence, one of the foremost pedagogical students of Ivan Galamian, who taught many illustrious violinists such as Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books.  As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire.  My voice students learn from a variety of sources.  I usually start with a song they know well and work from there.  Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques.   Read More

For beginning students, I usually start by creating a strong foundation in the student's mind of why they want to learn how to play an instrument and what goals, if any, they initially have for themselves. I then utilize this to help create individual based lesson plans that are driven by the inner workings of the student's mind. I incorporate music theory into every instrument at every skill level because I believe it to be something that is extremely important to understand and that not a lot of students are exposed to before they get to college. Hello! I'm a recent graduate from Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental/Choral/General Education finishing up my student teaching. I like to inspire students to improve without pressuring them. Every person has different abilities and capabilities.
