I started playing the violin at the age of 8 and now I have been playing it for 30 years. I started working with children when I turned 19 and to this day I have never stopped. I studied and worked at the same time, as well as playing in an orchestra, and I developed a strong work ethic. Im a passionate teacher and professional multi-instrumentalist. I graduated with a Bachelor in Violin Performance from Appalachian State University in 2012 and have since performed classically with orchestras in eastern Tennessee and across North Carolina as well as with a professional wedding ensemble. Im also active within the Asheville music scene as a bluegrass/folk/Americana musician with two projects, Old Sap and The Jackson Grimm band. Experienced in private and group teaching settings for beginner to advanced level string students for ten years. I am currently the Strings instructor at Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC where I offer beginner to advanced classes for violin, viola, and cello. Course Materials: I teach classical style music. I use the Suzuki books as repertoire for all students (I do not teach the Suzuki method though) and occasionally use other helpful materials such as Kreuitzer and Trott to teach intermediate students etudes, positions, and technique. Through these materials, I help every one of my students acquire the freedom that comes from a balanced position and relaxed motions. For beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. I also use these books as a foundation for intermediate students. After students have grasped the basics, I will talk with them to determine their interest in different musical styles and songs. I will then add in supplementary material to go alongside the Piano Adventures books to give them a broader range of musical ability.
