My emphasis is on performance and motivating the student. I set goals for performance at the early stages of study whether it's for family and friends or at an open mic or in church. Without performance as a goal it's hard to motivate the student to practice. I analyze each student's individual learning style whether it's visual or auditory and find ways to help them learn faster and securely. For me it is essential that a student learn first all the techniques exercises and then start to create music. For any student, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements series. This method book will help teach the basic fundamentals needed to progress on the instrument. For children, I will continue through the method book series while supplementing it with short popular pieces that may be of interest to the student. My music studies began at the age of five, and I have been playing the violin and viola for over twenty years now. I have about ten years of voice instruction, piano lessons, and guitar experience.
