I have been playing violin for more than a decade. I began teaching violin three years ago at the same music school I started my own studies in. I started as a summer chamber councilor and then began teaching students as a private instructor. I use mainly the Suzuki method, and other non-traditional methods. My lessons are very structured and fun. I incorporate games, visual aids, physical application, and live demonstrations to help appeal to the different styles. I do expect a high level of commitment from students while still being understanding that life doesnt always allow us to practice hours and hours a day. Since I do provide a lot of information within each lesson, I add a 5 minute break (if needed) to help clear the mind or just rest the eyes/arms since staring at music for a long period of time or holding up an instrument for a long period of time can be quite taxing. I usually begin with the Suzuki method for both children and adults, and once the student has a good command of fundamental violin technique, we progress in the style of the student's primary interest. I am very open to teaching a variety of styles, and can put together a detailed lesson plan for any direction the student may choose. In the event that the student is primarily focused on areas other than the classical repertoire, I definitely begin with Mark O'Connor's violin method that is specifically designed for students interested in traditional folk and fiddle music.
