After teaching myself theory at the age of 4, I received my first musical instruction in 6th grade. At that time I learned to play the flute. This is where my musicianship began to blossom and opportunities were sent my way. Thanks to my love and dedication, I was one of a few placed in special bands. Auditioning & being selected for choruses during this time increased as well. As a result of my hard work, I was offered & accepted the positions at section leader and Drum Majorette in my high school's concert and marching bands & after joining choir my junior year I became lead soloist of the choir. Beginning students will most likely be playing from whatever band book their school uses. If the student is not in middle school yet, then they will most likely start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. As students progress, more material will be added later. For intermediate students, I would begin to add solo repertoire and would most likely also add the Clarke Characteristic Studies.
