I have been around music practically since I was born, as my parents were both professional musicians and our house was constantly filled with the sounds of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. I initially decided to study piano and violin performance but changed my focus to education and teaching. Every student begins with the basics, warmups, exercises, and fundamentals are the building blocks of music and must always be reviewed in order to continue progressing. For beginning students, I use the lesson books they are working on in school in order to help them as they work with their teacher. I also introduce exercises, and solos. I've touched on this briefly above, but, my main focus in teaching a student is always to help them find their own musical voice. For beginners this means, not only helping them learn the rudiments and basics of music, but also exposing them to various styles and approaches they may not otherwise encounter. I am interested in helping others experience the joy of making music. I began playing trumpet at age 11 and went on to play and teach professionally. I reached much success in high school when I was awarded the first chair in the Alabama All-State Band. I then went on to study to be both a performer and educator in college.
