The philosophy is that progress is what were striving for, not perfection. I assess the skill and technical abilities and grow from that point. I have seen my students achieve success at all levels, from being a beginner to winning a college scholarship to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music! I have taught pre-K through adult instrumental and vocal music. I have taught Jr. High and High School Band. I presently am teaching in Gibson County as a part time public school music teacher since I retired from full time service over 2 years ago. (I just couldn't stay away from it!) I teach according to each students learning ability and I also love to challenge my students to help with their daily practice time. Depending on the level of advancement , we will determine the materials that is needed for each lesson. If its a beginner they will start on the basic learnings and fundamentals of music to help them better understand the lesson. I've touched on this briefly above, but, my main focus in teaching a student is always to help them find their own musical voice. For beginners this means, not only helping them learn the rudiments and basics of music, but also exposing them to various styles and approaches they may not otherwise encounter. Usually, this will lead a student to a level of inspiration where they see the learning of a musical instrument as a lifetime commitment and a journey that is constantly exciting and demanding.
