Once the students have learned the basics, I play for them several pieces they would want to play for the next recital coming up so they can have an idea of what they like. I have taught privately for the past five years. My students have ranged from eleven years old to college-age students in their late teens and early twenties. I love teaching for many reasons. I see a student as not just a musician, but as a complete person. Each student is very different, and I want to help them find their voice and their ability. My students have placed in honor bands, including the West Tennessee Solo and Ensemble Festival, and in this competition have won first prizes for both ensemble and solo competitions. Read More

For students who are serious about learning I believe a goal-oriented approach is the best, having a certain level or certain piece to try to reach by a specific time. Accomplishing this goal and seeing the results from working through the steps needed to learn a piece is very rewarding. This leads to new goals and the motivation to learn and accomplish even more. I like Faber and Faber piano adventures because they teach a lot like I do. I've been developing a power point and You Tube presentation to go along with the book for those students who need more visual stimulus. I like various curruiculum's with Trumpet and Brass players. I stay around the Trumpet players Bible using an Arban's book with some Clark exercises along with the students band book to help them not to form bad habits. Read More

Being a musician can teach us more about our time, lives, and interactions with others than any other profession. Ive played in a variety of environments including music videos, recording sessions, wind ensembles, orchestras, symphonies, and chamber groups. I wish for and teach my students to be well-rounded because I know the benefits from my own experiences.
