For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. It was more of an epiphany than a gradual choice which saw me take on the career of a musician. From a young age and onward, I always maintained an affinity and constant desire for music. In all this time nothing has ever proved so gratifying. No doubt I have various instructors to thank for this love, along with their respective academic institutions. From completing my undergraduate studies at Cal State Northridge, and finishing with graduate performance work at the wonderful University of Southern California, I more than owe it to the world of music education to give back however I can.
