My teaching experience dates back to my days working in Los Angeles working as staff composer songwriter, as I began to teach private piano and voice lessons part time 15 years ago I've found that a combination of blues and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy and progress their studies in piano, voice and guitar. I started playing the piano in college and have learned to play many instruments in my career. I was an Elementary school teacher for 20 years teaching music, band, English Language Arts, Science, and History. I guess you could say I've had a great deal of experience with children as well as adults and still enjoy working with kids in my studio. I put an emphasis on proper buzzing techniques for new trumpet students as well as the right warm-up exercises. On any instrument I teach, I will stress the importance of knowing all your scales. This is very important for any instrument you may want to learn. For students who already know all major scales, I would move on to minor scales.
