My teaching experience started when I was in high school I assisted the middle school band director and taught some private trumpet lessons. During my time at Pensacola Christian College, I learned how to teach lessons in brass, woodwind, percussion, and strings. Part of the requirements included student teaching where I taught third grade theory, high school band, private trumpet, and private clarinet lessons. Whenever I give lessons, I set a teaching plan based on individual circumstances. I use the same materials the student uses in their school. I add material as I see fit as we go along, I have found it is more effective than trying to fit everybody into the same box. For beginning students, i start with the fundamentals technical basics of the instrument like long notes, scales and flexibility. Once the student has progressed, i will start with Arban's method book, H.L.Clarke Technical studies for Trumpet and my own exercises. Later i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance. For adults, i try to find out what the student is interested in, and from there, use that with my instruction to keep the lessons engaging and fun for them, no matter their ability level. Read More

Due to my experience working with multiple grade/age levels, I have learned to carefully fine tune my teaching strategy for each individual student that I work with. At the beginner level I typically work from method books to ensure a solid development of performance fundamentals. I also like to spend a good bit of time establishing successful warm-up and practice routines.
